into his fourth season as a Seattle
Mariner he still is only 24 years
old. He was considered a superstar
when he began his first season.
He was all-star team the first two
seasons.
Last year like his teammates who
played in the field he was inconsistent
at the plate. The Mariners are banking that Julio will start out hitting well
from the outset of the season.
Julio had the best average on the
team for the nine who played 100
games or more on the season.
His best month was September
when Edgar Martinez was the hitting
coach when Dan Wilson became
manager. Julio's overall average
was .273. September Julio hit
.328 along with 7 home runs and
22 RBIs. Could you imagine if this
season he had about that in two
months each.
Many times players have a sophomore
slump however in Julio's it was much
of 2024. If Julio can have a season
like 2023 and some of the guys do
the same the Mariners will be in good
shape.
Despite his lack of consistency at the plate Julio was still outstanding playing
in center field. The amazing thing
the Mariners thought he would be
the right fielder. He didn't play center
in.the minor leagues and didn't
miss a step.
I wish the Mariners would have
brought someone in to match
or come closer to Julio as a
player in the infield. Hopefully someone will step up.
Friday is opening game of spring
training. Jnothan Diaz who was
on the 40-man roster right before
camp was designated for assignment
then signed a minor league contract
and invited to spring training.
