Spring Training Opens Next Wednesday For Mariners

It has been a tough offseason
at least for the Mariners fans
since not much happened in
acquiring players. At least those
who would upgrade the team.
The Mariners did resign Jorge
Polanco who they had not accept
his option back in November.

The Mariners did sign a lot of pitchers
mainly relievers. Emerson Hancock
is still the main guy if one of the
starters goes down. I wonder if he
starts in triple A again  or in the bullpen
as a long reliever if the five starters
are set to go. The Mariners don't
have many spots in the bullpen
however I would put him in though
Now we see how the bullpen looks.

Andre Munoz is the closer and
Gregory Santos is the main setup
man so leaves six other spots.

Colin Snider who increased his
worth should be in the bullpen
as well as Trent Thornton. Tayler
Saucedo probably be the lefty out
off the bullpen. Last year he did
well against lefties however not
as much against righties. Gabe
Speier comes back to see if he
can be the other lefty. He had
a poor season and injuries where
he spent time in Tacoma too.
Do they have room for two lefties.
The likelihood they may keep
a righty who can get lefties out
too.

If the Mariners go with one lefty
that leaves three more spots.
Troy Taylor who had a very good
September when he was called
up would be a choice to make
the team however he is going
to miss the beginning of spring
training with a right lat strain.
If he does become healthy and
through enough he be a spot
to although one would be open
if he isn't ready.

As I said if the Mariners decide to
go with Emerson Hancock in the
bullpen or there was talk about six
man starting rotation which I am
not fond about in either case it
would leave one spot for quite
a few guys. Matt Brash will have
a spot however he likely won't
be ready until April sometime.
He may even go on a rehab
assignment.

Now that leaves quite a few guys
I see vying for the last spot in
the bullpen or two if Taylor isn't
ready to go. Best to them all.
Go M's.
