out the day besting Minnesota on
their home court to end a six game
losing streak the Cougars and Zags
didn't have same results.
The Huskies and Cougars are both
looking for the future to be bright
while winning at the same time with
two new head coaches.
The Cougars got off to a good start
on the road facing San Francisco Dons.
It only lasted for about the first half
of the first half of the game. They were
able to have a eight point lead then the
Dons made their move. After tying
the game 16-16 and going back and
forth the Dons ended the first half
scoring 14 points straight. The
beginning of the second half they
scored six more points before the
Cougars could do anything. The Dons
built the lead from there without the
Cougars able to get back into the
game. The final was Dons 75 WSU 51.
The Dons out scored the Cougars by
12 points in both halves. The Dons
had three players in double figures
with Marcus Williams leading the
way at 17 points. Junjie Wang and
Ryan Beasley were not far behind
with 16 and 14 respectively.
The Cougars had just two players
in double figures with Ethan Price
and Dane Erikstrup each having
12 points. Nate Calmese who has
been their leading scorer for most
of the season had only 2.
Neither team shot well shooting
just under 40 percent from the
field and 3s were worse. The
Dons made 11 more points at
the foul line than the Cougars.
What didn't help the Cougars
either was having 18 turnovers.
The Cougars will face rival Oregon
State in Corvallis this coming Thursday.
The Beavers are 6-4 in conference
while the Cougars are 5-6. The Cougars
are looking to end a four game losing
streak. Go Cougs!
The Zags on the other hand got down
by 14 points before making a run and
making it game which unfortunately
cutting it short. St. Mary's 62-58 win.
The Zags had a chance down by two
with under ten seconds to tie or win
the game however missed the shot
and St. Mary's getting the rebound.
The Zags had to foul to have a chance.
This leaves St. Mary's undefeated in
the conference and the Zags at 7-3
in third place right behind the Dons.
The Zags had only two players in
double figures and scored many of
their points. They were led by Graham
Ike with 24 points and led with 8
rebounds. Ryan Nembhard had 11
points. He led with 12 assists too.
The Zags didn't shoot well from outside
the 3 point line making only 3 of 17
while St. Mary's made 9 of 25. The
Zags did well having turnovers in
single digits.
The Zags play Loyola Marymount on
Thursday followed by Pacific on
Saturday. The game Thursday at home
while traveling to Pacific on Saturday.
Coach Mark Few doesn't like the
travel schedule this season in the
WCC. Go Zags!
