favorite players and team hall
of famers is now the manager.
Dan took over for Scott Servais
who was fired in his 9th season.
Servais firing was a bit of a surprise
since he and baseball president
Jerry Dipoto are long time friends
and colleagues. I am sure ownership
had a lot to do with it.
Dan Wilson is now the Mariners
10th manager since Lou Piniella
walked away after the 2002
season. Dan became manager
at the end of August. One of the
first things was bring back Edgar
Martinez as hitting coach. It
turned out to be a good move
since the team's batting average
had been terrible most of the
season.
In the 34 games that Dan Wilson
managed in 2024 his record
was 21 and 13. A very good
record for sure and almost got
the Mariners into the playoffs
missing by one game.
Most likely we will see a difference
in how the games will be played
especially by the offense. How
the bullpen is used could be as well.
The Mariners starting lineup will
mostly look the same as last season
ended. The Mariners will have a
different look at second base though
candidates are ones that were on
the roster. Former second baseman
looks go be the Mariners third
baseman this time around. We will
see how it works.
Dan Wilson way of manager will
be a bit different than Servais was.
Most likely they won't platoon as
much or what I hope for is not as
much pinch hitting. The big change
we will see more small ball. Which
we hope for is less strike outs and
driving in more runs especially from
third base.
The Mariners first preseason game will be on this coming Friday the 21st.
The spring training games will mostly
heard on the radio. The first TV game
will be on March 6 in the evening.
At that point we might see what the
offense will look like though players
still trying to make the team.
The Mariners don't have to many
positions opened. May see a
difference on the bench which
won't be much and possibly a
reliever or two.
It will be exciting to see how
Dan Wilson managing maybe
different beginning of this season.
Go M's.
