that Washington Huskies have
a new men's basketball coach.
A couple hours later I heard which
was a shock that Kyle Smith the
head coach at Washington State
was moving onto the Stanford
Cardinal as head coach.
News first came out that Utah State
head coach Danny Sprinkle was
named the head coach at Washington.
Not a big surprise since his name was
at the top of list when it came to
candidates. He spent only one year
at Utah State. Previously he had been
at Montana State. So the last two years
he made March Madness then this
year. Most likely the Huskies spoke to
him earlier including former AD
Troy Dannen before he went to Nebraska.
No details on the contract other than it is
a six year contract the same amount
ofvyears Mike Hopkins did his second
time around. Sprinkle has family connection to the university so.there
is a good chance he will stivk out the.six years at least.
Sprinkle making March Madness the
last three years gives Huskies fans
a lot of hope. We hope that the Huskies
bring back assistant coaches and alumni
Will Conroy and Quincy Poindexter. The
Huskies have a good base here in
Washington high school recruits.
We hope that Koren Johnson who
put his name into the transfer portal
will return next season.
Coach Sprinkle will be busy to find
players to come to Washington. Six
of the players including star player
Keion Brooks Jr. eligibility is up.
The Huskies likely have to bring at
lesst that many on board. The
Huskies going to the Big Ten have a
better chance to make March Madness
especially with a coach like Sprinkle.
Stanford is going to go into the ACC
Conference next year along with
California. Obviously they wanted
to make a splash in hiring Kyle Smith.
It was a pretty good kept secret
on this one.
The Stanford job a dream job for
Kyke Smith. The Cougars will be
joining the West Coast Conference
which is a step down for the Cougars.though Gonzaga and
St. Mary's is in it. The ACC has both
Duke and North Carolina along
with others. The way conferences
are going how long will it last.
Now we will have to see who the
Cougars bring in as coach and the
other what players stick around.
We do know freshman Isaiah Watts
has connections to Washington
as his father Donald played as a
Husky. Stay tuned you all.
