One Week Until Mariner's Season Opener

The Seattle Mariners season begins
in one week on Thursday March 28
at home against the Boston Red Sox.
Most of the roster is set. The team
was pretty set when training camp
began.

The bullpen had five spots already
to go with who would be the remaining
three spots however Matt Brash and
Gregory Santos haven't been able to
pitch during camp so they will start
on the injured list.

Brash seems to be ahead of Santos
so he could be available when the
10 days are up and Santos likely
won't be available until late April.
So there two spots will be taken.
Andre Munoz will be the closer.
Tayler Saucedo and Gabe Speier
should be the two lefties.

Ryne Stanek should be the reliever
just before Munoz coming into the
9th inning until Brash and Santos
are ready. The lefties could to
depending on the situation. Austin
Both signed as a free agent during
the offseason will be the longer
reliever and Trent Thornton might
be used in that spot to though right
now may come in the 7th inning.
A lot depends on how the starter
goes. Begin of the season the starter
will be on a pitch count especially
Bryce Miller and Bry Woo. Somewhere
around 80 to 85 pitches. Castillo,
Gilbert and Kirby should be able to
throw near 100 pitches. This will
depend how many runs the give up.

The question is who will take Brash
and Santos spot on the roster. The
decision should be made over the
next few days. The last game in
Peoria will be Sunday then to San Diego
to play two games.

The infield is expected in Ty France
at first, Jorge Polanco at second,
JP Crawford at short and Josh Rojas
with Luis Urias sharing third. Rojas
may play second when Polanco needs
a day off.

Cal Raleigh be the starting catcher
with Seby Zavala  being number two.
Since Cal is a switch hitter he likely
will play four out of every five games.
The weekend whether Zavala starts
will depend on whether a left or right
start. We could see him against a
righty on Sunday if both games don't
have a lefty.  Mitch Garver is the
full time dh however could see him
a few times at catcher..

In the outfield Julio Rodriguez will
start in center field. Right now it
looks like Dominic Canzone will
start in left and Mitch Haniger in
right. Luke Raley will be the 4th
outfielder when giving either Canzone
or Haniger a day off. Raley will be the
backup at first base too. This could
change depending who is hitting well.

Right now Dylan Moore seems to be
the utility player unless the Mariners
decide differently. Most of his playing
time will be in left field against a tough
left or giving JP Crawford a day off at
short.

Cade Marlowe was sent down to
triple A Tacoma however the team
needs an outfielder the most likely
one to come up. Samad Taylor might
still be in the race for utility player.
He and Sam Haggerty might be sent
down to Tacoma. So stay tuned!
