Mariners Lose Twin Bill

It would have been nice if the Mariners
had won at least one of the two games.
The importance though is to be ready
for opening day and get off to a good
start which the Mariners haven't done
the last two or three years.

It is important for the offense to score
more runs to take off the pressure on
the pitching. The starting pitching will
need to have Castillo, Kirby and Gilbert
to throw around one hundred with less
pressure to throw perfect pitches.  Kirby
has good control so he could easily
go for seven innings at least. Gilbert
showed he could do that as well. Castillo
often throws more pitches then either
Kirby or Gilbert. The best would be to
not strike out as many batters unless
he is able to go zero and two more often
especially early in the game. Stay away
from.a big inning from the opposing
team. When he is pitching well he is
awesome.

Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo will probably
throw 80 pitches a game depending how
they go. I could see them throw a little
over that depending the inning and outs
at the time. It will be important to throw
around 15 pitches per inning so they
can go six innings.  I am sure we will
see Emerson Hancock pitching some
starts as well. I wouldn't mind seeing
a six-man rotation on the road while
file at home. The schedule will determine
that too. Many homestands are nine
games and occasionally ten. It may
depend where on the road they are
playing. On the east coast a six-man
would be nice though they likely have
a day off before the first game of the
road trip and after the last game. How
the schedule works on who they face
as well. It may take some planning
on how the rotation goes. If a pitcher
or two gets roughed up they might
want to insert a sixth starter. The top
three probably wouldn't want an extra
day off even if they had s rough outing
and threw a lot of pitches.  Having
Hancock in the bullpen maybe a good
idea too. They could shuffle him and
Woo in the bullpen.

In game one in which the Mariners lost
to Cleveland 4-1 they had only five hits.
Dylan Moore had a single leading off
the first inning scoring on a double by
Polanco. Moore is having a good spring
at the plate. Makes him number one
for the utility job right now. Polanco had
a second hit in the game.

Marlowe having a good spring had
a single as well.  Cole Tucker who
came in for Rojas at third had the
fifth hit.

In game two between the Rangers
and the Mariners had a rocky start
by Logan Gilbert giving up two runs
in the first inning followed by four
in the second with only getting one out.
The Mariners scored two in the first
inning followed by one in the third
and four in the fourth inning. The
Rangers scored a run in the top
of the sixth  and the Mariners two
in the bottom of the sixth. The
Mariners had a 9-7 lead at that point
but the Rangers had another run in
the seventh and won by scoring
two in the top of the ninth.

Julio Rodriguez went two for two
and a walk. He scored and drove
in a run too. Mitch Haniger had a
solo home run in the 3rd inning.
Mitch Garver had the big hit of
the game hitting a three-run homer
in the 4th. Cal Raleigh and Ty France
each drove in a run. France was on
a sacrifice fly. Like to see some of
those during the season.

The Mariners have an afternoon
game on Wednesday against
the Royals. No one listed to
start as of yet.

Great news Nelson Cruz will be
throwing out the first pitch
on  opening day. It will be good to
see him. Go M's.
