Sunday afternoon 8-3. Spring training
games are not as important than
getting ready for the regular season
and staying healthy.
Talking about being healthy Jackson
Kowar who the Mariners acquired in
the trade with Atlanta for Jarred
Kelenic is going to miss the 2024
season as he had have Tommy John
surgery. Matt Brash will likely be
on the injured list when the season
opens. He likely be activated when
the Mariners return home for their
second homestand of the season.
Gregory Santos though throwing
hasn't pitched in the spring either.
He to could start the season on the
injured list and be activated the
same time as Brash. So two pitchers
who may have not been on the opening
day roster could be in the bullpen.
The Mariners made it official Sunday
with signing Ryne Stanek. With Brash
and Santos likely to start on the
injured list Stanek will be important
to be coming in ahead of Andres Munoz
as the closer. Tayler Saucedo who pitched
Sunday and hasn't given up a run in
the spring yet along with Gabe Speier
both lefties will be important going
in the seventh or eighth inning to.
When Brash and Santos are able to
go Stanek we will likely see him in
sixth or seventh inning depending
how far the starter goes.
Austin Voth expected to be the
primary long reliever could be the
first out of the bullpen going one
or two innings depending on.the
starter and what the score may be.
Emerson Hancock expected to be
the sixth starter whether on the
roster or triple A could start the
season with the Mariners out
of the block with the injuries.
He could be long reliever along
with Voth.
Sunday second baseman Jorge
Polanco had two home runs. The
first of the spring for him. The first
was a solo in the first inning to get
the scoring going. The second one
was a grand slam to left field. The
wind likely helped in the ball going
out. Cal Raleigh had a triple and a
double in the game. Likely won't
catch on Monday. Ty France had
a couple hits. He could not be
playing either on Monday.
Julio Rodriguez, Mitch Haniger
and Mitch Haniger didn't play
Sunday so could be in the lineup
Monday. George Kirby had his
second outing of the spring
going two and one-third innings.
Kirby gave four hits, two runs,
one walk and struck out five.
Sure he wasn't happy about the
walk since he never is.
Trent Thornton who should be
in the bullpen pitched one inning
giving up a walk only. Ty Buttery
won't an inning giving up a hit and
struck one. He to could be on the
opening day roster.
The Mariners take on the Padres
in Peoria on Monday. Logan Gilbert
is scheduled to pitch. Bryce Miller
to go on Tuesday followed by Bryan
Woo on Wednesday. Go M's.
In other local sports news Tyler
Lockett restructuring his contract
so looks like he will be a Seahawk
for another year. Free agency signing
begin on Monday so we could see
some news on that front. Go Hawks!
