weather in the Seattle area so Friday's
games were cancelled. Besides the
major league game so was the one
the Mariner's prospects were to play
the San Diego prospects.
Saturday the Mariners have split
squads with George Kirby facing
the Cincinnati Reds while Luis
Castillo goes against the Chicago
White Sox.
Luis Castillo already faced his former
team this spring so sure why he is
going against Chicago. He had a
great outing in his last one so hope
to see about the same.
The game against the White Sox
will be in Peoria so likely see most
of the starting position players in
that one.
We have known all along there
hasn't been many openings in
training camp. Since Santos
and Bash will be starting on the
injured list it will be interesting
to see who will take their spots
on the opening day roster.
The corner outfield positions
will be interesting since Mitch
Haniger will start in right field
against lefties for sure and some
against righties as well. A lot
depends on the matchups against
righties. Dominic Canzone and
Luke Raley will split time. Both
left handed hitters one or the
other will likely won't start against
lefties. In some cases whoever
is the utility player may play against
lefties depending on matchups.
Raley most of his major league
career he has faced righties for
the most part. I expect whoever
has the hot hand between Raley
and Canzone will play. Another
idea will be how many righties
or lefties they play in a row or in
a series as well.
An example is the Los Angeles
Angels it looks like the may have
three lefties start in their rotation
so depending how a series goes
against the Mariners they could
easily be facing at least two of
them.
In basketball the semifinals of the
Pac-12 men's basketball tournament
the WSU Cougars lost to Colorado
58-62. It was a close game all the way.
The Cougars should be in the NCAA
tournament. The matchups for the
first round will be announced Sunday
afternoon. The Cougars with the loss
Friday night means they will likely
have a lower seed then they were hoping.
Both the Cougars and Colorado shot
about the same from the field. The
difference in the game Colorado
went 11 of 17 from the foul line
while Cougars made just 4 of 7.
Though a low scoring game the
Cougars had three players score
in double figures. Issac Jones
led the Cougars with 13 points.
Jaylen Wells had 11 points and
led the Cougars with 7 rebounds.
We wish the Ciugs the best in
the NCAA tournament.
The Oregon Ducks beat Arizona
in the other semifinal game
67-59. The winner of the Pac-12
tournament between Oregon
and Colorado will have automatic
bid for NCAA tournament. I expect
that all four semifinal teams should
be in NCAA tournament.
