The Seattle Mariners beat Brewers
4-2 Thursday afternoon. Bryan Woo
had an extra day off. It paid off as he
went four innings without giving up
no hits or walks and struck out five.
He faced the minimum as well so
very focused. It might be a good idea
Woo is given an extra day off on
occasion during the season. Actually
after his first start he will have a day
off between his second and third
start. If all five starters get an off day
he will have another one before his
fifth start as well. It will be interesting
how the Mariners will work with the
days off. This will be more important
later in the season.
All four of the Mariners runs came
with a home run. Mitch Haniger
and Luis Urias each had solo homers
while in between Cal Raleigh had a
two-run homer. The Mariners will
try to score in other fashion to this
season having multiple home runs
in games will happen.
Haniger was at dh on Thursday. Even
during the season I am sure the
Mariners will rest Garver. It will be
interesting to see how often Garver
will be behind the plate as well.
Friday Emerson Hancock will start.
The Mariners will have split squad
on Saturday so some players from
minor league camp will be up. George
Kirby will start one game while Castillo
will do the other. Kirby who missed
one start may go only three innings.
I am sure he is on a pitch count.
Castillo may go four or possibly five
depending on how he is doing.
The Washington State Cougars beat
Stanford 79-62. The Cougars got off
to a slow start however when they got
going that was it for Stanford. The
Cougars led by 16 points at half time.
Both the Cougars and Stanford didn't
shot well behind the three point line.
The Cougars made only one more
three. The Cougars shot a little better
from the field making 50.8%. The
Cougars made six more shots while
taking seven more. The Cougars made
four more free throws though taking
the same amount of shots. Not a big
deal with the large win. In fact Stanford
could not get the score below ten after
the Cougars went on their run. In fact
the score was around 20 point lead
most of the second half.
The Cougars spread the wealth in
scoring as six players scored in
double figures. Isaac Jones led
with 16 points. The Cougars had
four players with six rebounds.
No one had anymore then that.
The Cougars will play the winner
of the Utah/Colorado game on
Friday in the semifinals. Colorado
right now leads by six in early
part of the second half.
Oregon will take on Arizona in
the other semifinal game. Oregon
game was close beating UCLA
68-66. Arizona beat USC.
The Seattle Seahawks made a trade
acquiring quarterback Sam Howell
from the Washington Commanders.
Howell started every game last season.
The Seahawks lost Drew Lock as a
backup as a free agent to the New York
Giants. Whether Howell or Smith
will start we will find out. Also do
the Seahawks draft a quarterback
somewhere as well or wait another
year.
The Seahawks received Howell along
with the Commanders fourth-round
pick along with the sixth round. The
Commanders receive the Seahawks
third and fifth round picks. It will be
interesting to see if the Seahawks
end up trading their first round pick
which is 16 overall and move down
acquiring more picks. We will see
and don't be surprised.
On Thursday the Seahawks signed
free agent linebacker Tyrel Dodson
who played four years with the
Buffalo Bills. The Seahawks may
sign another as well since Bobby
Wagner and Jordyn Brooks won't
be returning. Go Hawks!
