Washington Huskies Fire Coach Hopkins

On Friday  the Washington  Huskies
fired head coach Mike Hopkins.  The
day after upsetting  state rival the
Washington  State Cougars.

This isn't  really a  surprise  to
anyone who have been watching
the Huskies the last five years.

Coach Hopkins  inherited a great
group  of players where he was
named Pac-12 Coach of the Year
his first two years. He was given
a new six year contract however
lived up to it. He was never able
to come close again.

This year's  team was the most
experience  group he had at least
offensively  since he came to
Washington.  The Huskies had
a 17-14 overall  record while
going 9-11 in the  Pac-12.

Now that the Huskies  will be
going to  the  Big Ten  it will
be important  to  find a Coach
where they can be competitive
in the conference. Most year's
the Big Ten will have probably
five teams sometimes more
go into the NCAA tournament.
The Huskies  will have to get
a Coach that allows them to
have a winning conference
record.

Athletic director Troy Dannen
will  have to find the right coach
to be able to  be competitive.
Going to a conference with a
lot of teams it will be interesting
to see what their  non-conference
schedule will be like. Hopefully
they will be able  to  keep playing
against the Cougars  as well as
Gonzaga.

Most of the Huskies non-conference
games have been played at home.
It would be nice to play a few on
the road as well. Most of the road
games in non-conference  games
have been in tournaments.  To get
ready  for  the  Big Ten games
it would be  nice to have some
road games leading into the
conference  schedule. We will
see won't  we. Go Dawgs!
