St. Mary's Prevails Over Zags

St. Mary's not only took WCC conference

title they beat Zags two out of three times.

The Zags had won the last four championships.

The game on Tuesday wasn't high

scoring with the final being 69-60.

St.Mary's automatically get in the

NCAA tournament while Gonzaga

is expected to get in as well. What

seating we will see.

St. Mary's led most of the way.

Leading  scorer for them was 

Aiden Mahaney with 23 points.

Aiden made five of seven behind

the 3 point line and was the 

difference in the game.

Gonzaga was led by Anton Watson

with 18 points and 7 rebounds.

The Zags only had three players

score in double figures. Made only

two shots beyond the 3 point line.

The Pac-12 tournament starts on

Wednesday. Washington Huskies

take on the USC Trojans. Next year

both will be in the Big Ten. Both

teams have talent where either

could go far in the tournament.

The winner though will take on

Arizona on Thursday so be a 

tough act to follow.

Thursday the Washington State

Cougars will play the winner of

Stanford and California Golden

Bears who play Wednesday

evening.  The Cougars should

win since they have had a good

season placing second in the

Pac-12 while Stanford and 

California have had mediocre

seasons. 

The two teams won at home 

against each other. Stanford

beat California last Thursday

80-58. How much that goes

into the tournament we will

see. 

Next time see how the Huskies 

did and the Mariners spring

training game. We now have to

see when the Huskies will name

their next head men's basketball

coach. How much the firing of

Coach Mike Hopkins goes into

this game against USC. Most

of the players will be playing

for the Huskies in this tournament

unless they surprise and win it
