Mariners Season Begins In 18 Days

The Mariners have 18 days until
the regular season begins on
March 28 at home against the
Boston Red Sox for four games.
They begin April with three games
against Cleveland before heading
to Milwaukee and Toronto for
six games.

The Red Sox and Toronto we play again
in July while Cleveland we play at in
June. The three we play at Milwaukee
is the only time we them. Very odd indeed.
The only other opportunity would be
to face them in the World Series.

The Mariners have one off day remaining
in spring training on March 20. The last
spring training game in Arizona will be
on March 24 against the Chicago Cubs.
Most likely play minor leaguers and
maybe backups. The squad will two
exhibition games in San Diego against
the Padres on March 25 and 26 before
heading home.

The Seattle's roster is still pretty set
without players who may go on the
injured list. The Mariners signed reliever
Ryne Stanek over the weekend. There
is a good chance that Matt Brash though
OK to throw now may begin the season
on the injured list. The Mariners don't
have many spots to make in the bullpen.

Word came out on Saturday the SF
Giants waived third baseman JD Davis
since signing Matt Chapman to a
three year deal. Since the Mariners
and the Giants have been trading
partners in recent years will the Mariners
go after Davis we will see. He does have
a good size contract so maybe the
Giants will pay part of it we will see.
What the Giants get in return who
knows maybe a pitcher or a utility
infielder or prospects. Stay tuned
we may know soon.

Davis is a right handed bat and played
in 144 games for the Giants last year
with a batting average of .248 with 18
home runs and 69 RBIs. He did strike
out 152 times which is less than Suarez.
Most likely acquiring Davis the Mariners
may not platoon at third base either.
Will the Mariners keep Luis Urias or
Josh Rojas. Being a left handed bat
and healthy Rojas maybe the likely
one to stay. The question is what
happens with Dylan Moore? Maybe
he is the one traded to the Giants.
Another question do the Mariners
need another right handed bat in
the outfield. This would mean
Julio Rodriguez and Mitch Haniger
as the right handed hitting outfielders
along with Luke Raley and Dominic
Canzone from the left side.

The Mariners still have a spot at utility
whether Dylan Moore is here or not
depending on Luis Urias being on
the roster if they did sign Davis.
Samad Taylor would be another choice
since like Moore he can play the
infield or outfield. Go M's.
