with 10-16 record. The are 5-5 in their
last ten games and a two game winning
streak.
The Mariners low level team at Modesto
is where more of their top prospects are
at and we could see a few move up to
Everett making them a stronger team.
We will get to that soon.
Ben Williamson third baseman and the
Mariners #15 prospect is having a good
season at Everett hitting .330 however
has only one home run which shows at
this point to be low for his position.
The Mariners with five of the top ten prospects playing second, short and
third base it is hard to know whether
he will be destined to be in Seattle.
He could end up being used in a trade.
He is 23 years old and in his second
professional season. We have to figure
it maybe two years before he makes the majors. He continues his hitting we may
see him promoted sometime this season
to double A.
Another player is Victor Labrada an outfielder out of Cuba and is 24 years
old. He played some time with Everett
last year where he batted .267. This year
he is doing better hitting .366. He has speed but doesn't hit home runs. Not listed
among tgd top 30 prospects so sticking
in the organization is ify.
The rest of the offense isn't great though
a few around the .250 batting average.
In the pitching side right hander Michael
Morales is #12 prospect. The highest
ranking pitcher in the Mariners farm system. Morales is only 21 years old
so has time to develop and hopefully
stays healthy. He was drafted in the
third round by the Mariners in 2021.
Morales is in his third full season in
professional ball. The last two years
he was at Modesto. I expect he will
spend gge year at Everett. Has a record
of 1-1 with an era of 4.0 in five starts
and 27 innings. He is about average
on walks and has 23 strike outs so
far.
Modesto Nuts are having a fantastic
season so far with a 19-6 record. This
all was with the Mariners number one pick
last year and third overall prospect
Colt Emerson out with an oblique injury.
He is expected to return this week for
Modesto which is great news.
#4 prospect is outfielder Lazaro Montes
who is 19 years old. The number eight
prospect of international players when
the Mariners signed him. He played second half of last year at Modesto and continues
to hit. Montes is batting .323 with six home runs and 36 RBIs in 24 games. He hits left handed hitter. Montes defense isn't great
so most likely when makes it to the Mariners he will see more action at dh
instead of in the outfield. He has a similar
personality as Julio so he will be a fan
favorite. When he does play in the field most likely see him in left field.
#6 prospect is outfielder Jonny Farmelo
drafted early on by the Mariners last year.
Right now he is batting only .222 probably
with a high percentage of strike outs and
being 19 years old and this being his first season playing. Jonny is taking walks almost as many as strike outs and is on
base .400. He recently was hurt however
not expected to miss much time. We will see in June how he does.
Shortstop Tai Peete another top draft
pick last year and is only 18. With Emerson
coming back likely to see him elsewhere
in the infield. He is hitting .256 despite his
strike out rate is at 33%.
Another youngster is infielder Michael
Arroyo at 19 years old was signed by
the Mariners out of Columbia in 2022.
He is right handed bat and is good physically. Arroyo is the last top ten prospect at number nine at Modesto.
Though he can play shortstop his position
likely be second or third base. With Colt
Emerson and Peete ahead of him listed
in the top ten he will likely see his
action at second third. Arroyo is currently
hitting .274 however hss only two home
runs. His strike out rate is a bit high.
Next up is #13 prospect outfielder Aiden
Smith drafted in the four round by the
Mariners last year. In his second year of
professional ball Aiden is hitting .258
and has three home runs in 23 games.
He to striking out a lot but another young
guy at 19 might be expected. The Mariners
don't have any other top 20 prospects at
Modesto as far as position players go.
As far as pitching goes #24 prospect Brody Hopkins is the highest one at Modesto.
Brody was drafted last year in the sixth
round. In college he played a lot of
outfield and not so much pitching however
the Mariners figured they can develop
him as a pitcher. In five starts with the
Nuts he is 0-1 with an era of 4.08. Brody
has a high rate of walks with 12 in just under 18 innings however does have 23
strike outs. His protection would be to
make the Mariners in 2026. With the
starters ahead of him seeing him in
the bullpen would be more likely. If
he can cut down on walks he could be
a good one.
