Tacoma Rainers and Arkansas Travelers Update

Tacoma Rainers the Mariners tripleA
team started out well. Have taken a
liitle slide though their record about
the same as the Mariners at 17-13.

Recently Jonatan Clase #10 was sent
back down to Tacoma from the Mariners.
The purpose for him to play everyday.
With the Mariners though when he was
called up to replace outfielder Dominic Canzone because of injury he did well
though average was around .200.
Mainly he was going to start in left field
against lefties while Luke Raley who they
wanted to get extra at bats would face righties. With Clase back now with Tacoma
Sam Haggerty will be in left against lefties.

Ryan Bliss who is number 11 prospect
started slow batting around .160 has
increased his average up to .226 is a
good thing. His strikes out is high though
if his average increases we hope the
average goes up.

As far as pitching goes lefty Jhonathan
Diaz is the Rainers best pitcher with a
4-0 record and a 2.45 which is really
good in the PCL.  If the Mariners need
another pitcher at some point to start
or relief he would be a good choice.
Bryan Woo should be activated soon
by the Mariners. The question will
Emerson Hancock be sent down
to Tacoma or either he or Woo go
to the bullpen.

The Arkansas Travelers who got
off to a slow start are now 14-9
and second place in the Texas
League north division.

Mariners #1 prospect Cole Young
is hitting .244 with a .337 on base
percentage.  Cole's strike out rate
at 19 percent. He doesn't have
any home runs yet but don't expect
a high number in that either.

Catcher Harry Ford is hitting .225
after getting off to a slow start.
Having played single A last year
taking him a little time to get used
to the Texas League. It is actually
harder to hit than triple A. We will
see how he and Cole do in May.

First baseman Tyler Locklear number
8 prospect continues to have a good
season at Arkansas. He is hitting .300
with an outstanding .446 on base
percentage. We could see Tyler in
Seattle later in the season.

Luis Curvelo is doing well out of
the bullpen for the Travelers.
He has a 3-0 with an era 2.03 in
nine games and 13.1 innings.
Luis has walked only two batters
while striking out 18. Though not
listed among the Mariners top
prospects we could see him in
Seattle someday.

Juan Mercedes a right handed
starter for the Travelers is 1-0
in four starts with an era 2.75.
Amazing is he has only one walk
while striking out seventeen in
19.2 innings. Juan Mercedes is 24
years old so this is a key season for
him. He continues the way he is
going who knows might be in Seattle
someday.

Next update on the minors we will
look at the Mariners two single A
teams. Most of the Mariners top
prospects are at low A Modesto
so will be good to see their progress.
