Mariners Blow Opportunity

It is important to win the first game
of a series. The Mariners hsdvdone so in recent series. Friday night in Houston
the Mariners had the opportunity to
so however the bullpen were unable
to do so this time.

The Mariners bullpen has done quite
well so far on the season so have to
expect a little stumble once in a while.
It is tough though on the road against
a division rival. This especially true
against a team that got off to terrible
start on the season.

The Astros have done well lately and we figured they would so could be a three team racethough Oakland has done better than expected so could be four. The Los
Angeles Angels started off well then went
on a losing streak then they lost centerfielder Mike Trout to an injury and
looks to be out for the season. The Angels
really couldn't afford losing Trout so the
likelihood they won't get back into.the
race even if they had a shot before.

Final Astros 5 Mariners 3

The Mariners had another quality start
this time by George Kirby who went
six innings and gave up one run. He
threw 88 pitches so may have thought
he could have gone another inning or
at least gotten one or two outs anyway.

Mariners scored first in the third inning
when Jorge Polanco hit a solo home run.
The Astros tied in the bottom of the 4th
inning when shortstop Jeremy Pena
grounded out to Jorge Polanco and
Yordan Alvarez scored.

In the fifth inning Dylan Moore hit a
two-run homer with Luke Raley on
base.  The  Astros scored four runs
off of Trent Thornton and Gabe Speier
in the 7th inning.

The Mariners had a chance in the
8th inning to tie the game anyway
with two runners on base however
Mitch Hanover flied out to right field
then Josh Rojas was out at home.

Most of the season the Mariners
have had trouble scoring runs late
in games. Though the starters have
done quite well and the bullpen too
the position players need to do
better.  Batters 4 thru 7 didn't have
a hit on the night. They all need or
at least one in critical time needs
to get at least one hit.

Saturday Logan Gilbert goes for the
Mariners so we hope for another
quality start. We hope for more success
in the middle of the lineup to do better.
If the Mariners end up not doing well
on this road trip they need to look for
another hitter. Someone who can be
successful on a regular basis. Go M's.
